Given:

An expression 2/3 - 4/5 + 7/15 - 11/20.

To find:

The simplified form of the given expression.

Solution:

As given, we have an expression

 \frac{2}{3}  -  \frac{4}{5}  +  \frac{7}{15}  -  \frac{11}{20}

As we can see, in all the fractions, the denominators are not the same So, we will take the LCM of 3, 5, 15 and 20.

The LCM of 3, 5, 15 and 20 is 60.

So,

We will multiply the denominator of each fraction by the numbers so that it becomes 60. We will multiply the same number in both numerator and denominator of that fraction.

So, we have,

 \frac{2 \times 20}{3 \times2 0}  -  \frac{4 \times 12}{5 \times 12}  +  \frac{7 \times 4}{15 \times 4}  -  \frac{11 \times 3}{20 \times 3}

After multiplication, we get

 \frac{40}{60}  -  \frac{48}{60}  +  \frac{28}{60}  -  \frac{33}{60}

On solving, we have,

 \frac{40 - 48 + 28 - 33}{60}

 =  \frac{ - 13}{60}

Hence, on simplification, the value of 2/3 - 4/5 + 7/15 - 11/20 is -13/60.
