➤ Answer :-

 \tt \longrightarrow3 \dfrac{1}{2}  -  \dfrac{1}{2}  + 5 \dfrac{1}{4}  -  \dfrac{1}{4}

Convert the mixed fractions to improper fractions.

 \tt \longrightarrow \dfrac{7}{2}  -  \dfrac{1}{2}  +  \dfrac{21}{4}  -  \dfrac{1}{4}

Convert them into like fractions by taking the LCM of the denominators i.e 2 and 4.

LCM of 2 and 4 is 4.

 \tt \longrightarrow \dfrac{7 \times 2}{2 \times 2}  -  \dfrac{1 \times 2}{2 \times 2}  +  \dfrac{21}{4} -  \dfrac{1}{4}

 \tt \longrightarrow \dfrac{14}{4}  -  \dfrac{2}{4}  +  \dfrac{21}{4}  -  \dfrac{1}{4}

First step is to add the fractions......

 \tt \longrightarrow \dfrac{14 - (2 + 21) - 1}{4}

 \tt \longrightarrow \dfrac{14 - 23 - 1}{4}  =  \dfrac{( - 9) - 1}{4}

 \tt \longrightarrow  \cancel\dfrac{( - 10)}{4}  =  \dfrac{( - 5)}{2}  =  - 2 \dfrac{1}{2}

\Huge\thereforeThe answer is \tt - 2 \dfrac{1}{2}

Remember...........

  • While adding the mixed fractions, first convert them into improper fractions. The final answer should be written in mixed fraction.
  • While adding and subtracting the fractions in the same question, first we should add and then subtract.
