Given:-

  • \sf x - [4y - \{2x + (3y - 3x)\}]

We have to simplify it.

Answer:-

❖ First we have to solve the part in ( ) and then { } and then [ ] and along with that we have to follow VBODMAS rule.

❖ VBODMAS is used for the priority of arithmetic operations where V stands for vinculum, B stands for bracket, O stands for "of", D stands for division, M stands for multiplication, A stands for addition and S stands for subtraction. The priority is highest for vinculum and decreases from left to right with subtraction having the lowest priority.

❖ Using the above two concepts,

\sf x - [4y - \{2x + (3y - 3x)\}]

As the part in ( ) cannot be simplified further, we will move on to { }

\longrightarrow \sf x - [4y - \{2x + 3y - 3x\}]

\longrightarrow \sf x - [4y - \{3y + 2x - 3x\}]

\longrightarrow \sf x - [4y - \{3y - x\}]

As the part in { } cannot be simplified further we will move on to [ ]

Note the sign change because of the "-" sign before {3y - x}

\longrightarrow \sf x - [4y - 3y + x]

\longrightarrow \sf x - [y + x]

As the part in [ ] cannot be simplified further, we will take it out of the bracket

Note the sign change because of the "-" sign before [y + x]

\longrightarrow \sf x - y - x

\longrightarrow \sf x - x - y

\longrightarrow \underline{\underline{\sf{\green{-y}}}}
