Substituting the value of a=1 in the expression:

a( {a}^{2} + a + 1) + 5

 = 1( {1}^{2} + 1 + 1) + 5

 = 1(1 + 1 + 1) + 5

 = (1 \times 3 )+ 5

 = 3 + 5

 = \huge 8 \: answer
