Since, \: a^2 + b^2 = (a+b)^2 - 2ab \: ,\\\\10^2 + 20^2 = (10 + 20)^2 - 2(10)(20)\\\\= 30^2 - 400\\\\= 900-400\\\\= \boxed{\boxed{500}}
