Hi ,

x + y - 1/2 (2 + x - 2y )

= x + y - ( 1/2 × 2) - (1/2 × x )+ (1/2 × 2y)

= x + y - 1 - x/2 + y

= ( x - x/2 ) + ( y + y ) - 1

= x/2 + 2y - 1

Or

( x + y ) - 1/2 ( 2 + x - 2y )

= [ 2( x + y ) - ( 2 + x - 2y ) ]/2

= ( 2x + 2y - 2 -x + 2y )/2

= ( x + 4y - 2 ) /2

= x/2 + 4y/2 - 2/2

= x/2 + 2y - 1

I hope this helps you.

Hello !

x + y - 1/2 (2 + x - 2y )

Opening the brackets:-
x + y - (1/2*2) - (1/2 *x)+ (1/2 *2y)

 x + y - 1 - x/2 + y

grouping like terms,

( x - x/2 ) + ( y + y ) - 1

(2x - x) /2 + 2y - 1

 x/2 + 2y - 1          ----> Required answer
