Given:

A number is increase by 4% followed by a 3% increase.

To Find:

What would a single decimal multiplier to number use to increase by 4% followed by a 3% increase?

Solution:

Let number is :

Number = X

It is increased by 4 %, number became:

\mathbf{Number =X\left ( 1+\dfrac{4}{100} \right )}

Number = 1.04 × X

It is again increased by 3 %, number became:

\mathbf{Number =1.04\times X \times  \left ( 1+\dfrac{3}{100} \right )}

Number = 1.04 × X× 1.03

Number = 1.0712 × X

From above it is clear that number will be multiply by 1.0712 to number.
