Siraj-ud-Daulah was defeated in battle of Plassey because Robert Clive bribed some important members of Siraj-ud-Daulah's court including his commander-in-chief Mir Jafar. on 23rd june 1757, the armies of Siraj-ud-Daulah and english east India company met at Plassy and Mir Jafar and his loyal soldirs in the Nawab's army did not take part in the battle due to this reason Siraj-ud-Daulah was defeated.

Robert Clive bribed Mir Jafar, the commander-in-chief of the Nawab's army, and also promised him to make him Nawab of Bengal. Clive defeated Siraj-ud-Daulah at Plassey in 1757 and captured Calcutta. The battle was preceded by an attack on British-controlled Calcutta by Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah and the Black Hole massacre.
