Six fingered offspring are formed from normal fingered parents by gene mutations.

Gene mutation

- A gene mutation is a permanent alteration in the primary structure of Deoxy ribo nucleic acid (DNA) which constitute the genes.

- Thus the resulting genes structure differs from a normal person's DNA.

- The presence of six fingers comes under the term Polydactyly (many fingers).

- It is an autosomal dominant mutation which means the person has one copy of a mutant gene and one normal gene on a single pair of autosomal chromosomes.

Hope this helps.
