 \huge {Question} :- Six more than one third of a number is three. Find the number.

 \huge {Solution} :-

Let the number be x

One third of a number = \dfrac{1}{3}x = \dfrac{x}{3}

Six more than one third of a number = \dfrac{x}{3} + 6

Their sum = 3

Accoeding to the question,

\dfrac{x}{3} + 6 = 3

Multiplying both sides by 3 we get,

x + 18 = 9

Moving constant to the right, we get,

x = 9 - 18

By calculation, we get,

x = -9

∴ The number is -9

Verification :-

\dfrac{x}{3} + 6 = 3

=> \dfrac{-9}{3} + 6 = 3

=> -3 + 6 = 3

=> 3 = 3

LHS = RHS ✔✔

∴ The number is -9
