Given :

There are six resistances .

Let one resistance be R

If the resistances are connected in series

Equivalent resistance = R + R + R + R + R + R

                                    = 6 R

If the resistances are connected in parallel

1 / Equivalent resistance = 1/R + 1/R + 1/R + 1/R + 1/R + 1/R

                                         = 6 × 1/R

                                         = 6/R

==> Equivalent resistance = R / 6

Your resistance hence depends upon the type of connection :

(i) In series the resistance is increased .

(ii) In parallel the resistance is decreased .

Hope it helps !
