Answer: son age 12

               mother age 42

Step-by-step explanation:

let the son age be s and mother age be m

m-6 = (s-6)^2

m+3=  3(s+3)

subtract those equations

-9 = s^2 -12s +36 -3s -9

s^2 -15s +36 =0

==> s(s-3) -12 (s-3) = 0

s-12)(s-3) = 0

==> s= 12

==> m= 42
