● Gross structure of kidney -
- Kidney is covered by tough, fibrous capsule called renal capsule.
- Gross structure of kidney can be divided into outer cortex & inner medulla.
- Renal pyramids are triangular divisions of medulla.
- Cortical tissue that dips down between medullary pyramids is called columns of Bertini.
- Renal papilla is narrow innermost end of pyramid.
- These papilla drain into minor calyses to major calyses and finally to renal pelvis.
