sodium is highly reactive even with water
it is also lighter and darts in the water
when brought near water it reacts to produce hydroxide and hydrogen
which When comes on contact with the oxygen of air burns with a pop sound

Hydrogen gas burns with a pop sound so when Sodium reacts with water then Hydrogen is evolved , as the reaction is an exothermic reaction so it releases heat which is sufficient to burn the Hydrogen gas evolved.
