The Haritha Haram project was initiated by K Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telengana state on 5 July 2015.
The project aims at expanding the tree coverage area from 24 percent to 33 percent.
The first sapling under this project was planted by the Chief Minister at Chilkur Balaji temple located in Ranga Reddy district situated near Hyderabad.
A proposal has been made to plant 230 crore seedlings in the state over a span of three years, with 130 crore seedlings outside the notified forest areas.
