As we know that the smallest particle from which all matter is composed of is the atom itself. The atom is an indestructible and indivisible particle. Elements are also made up of identical atoms but atoms of each element are different from other and easily distinguishable. Two elements make up the compound composed of atoms which may be present in simple whole number ratios like two hydrogen atoms attached with one oxygen atom to make water. Typically the atom has a size around 100pm.

- Also, we know that every atom consists of a nucleus at its centre and one or more electrons having negative charge is bound to that nucleus. Nucleus possesses neutrons that are without any charge and protons which have a positive charge, so if the number of protons is equal to the number of electrons then an atom is considered as electrically neutral. If the number of electrons is more then, the atom is negatively charged and if the protons are more than, it has a positive charge and such atoms are commonly called ions.
