Reaction of soap with NaCl:

  • When salt i.e NaCl reacts with the soap it forms the fatty-acid salts.
  • The Na⁺ ions from the NaCl bond with the fatty acid and form a product that is less soluble in water because of this, the solubility of soap decreases.
  • And soap precipitates out from the solution in solid form.
  • Addition of salt into soap is called salting out of soap.
