In Kerala, Agriculture Development
& Farmers' Welfare Department deals with the formulation and
implementation of various programmes/ activities to augment production
of both food crops and cash crops in the State. It undertakes activities
among farmers to promote scientific methods of cultivation plant
protection etc. and also arranges the supply of high yielding varieties
of seeds, seedlings, planting materials and plant protection chemicals
to farmers.
Kerala is the only State in India having a well defined agriculture
system starting from the Grama Panchayats. This system is supposed to be
the most effective structure for agricultural extension. In fact, the
Department makes a presence in all the Grama Panchayat through
KrishiBhavans.
