Social division is differentiation of people on the basis of their sex, religion, caste, etc. It is usually about domination of the one in majority.
In USA and South Africa, where both blacks and whites live together, there is racial division on the basis of origin and colour. The ancestors of present-day Blacks were born in Africa and are black in skin colour and that of Whites were born in UK and are white in colour. Usually, the whites dominate the blacks.
In some European countries like Ireland, Christainity is supported by the government and the Church has a crucial role in decisions. Christains dominate the people of other religions.
In Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries, people are discriminated on the basis of religion. Muslims are in majority and dominate the people of other religion.
In India, there many social divisions:
1) Religion—
The original inhabitants of India were mostly Hindu. They are in majority today. The people of other religions such as Islam, Christainity, Zorastrian, etc. migrated to India
2) Caste—
Some people belong to upper caste and some to lower. The people of upper caste dominate the lower caste. Lower castes are made to do many humilating practices and are treated very badly. Usually, the upper caste people are richer.
3) Language—
The major languge of India is Hindi. There are many local dialects which are common in that particular region. Apart from Hindi, there are many other languages which are common in those regions. Telugu is common in Andhra Pradesh, Malyalam in Kerala, Tamil in Tamil Nadu, Bengali in West Bengal, etc. The people are discriminated and divided on the basis of language in these regions. Also, the tribals speak many different languages. The people who speak a language spoken by majority dominate others.
4) Place of birth—
The indegenous people of a place, who usually speak the language in majority, dominate the migrants.
