Social inequality and social injustice was one of the major causes of French Revolution in 1789. We see the French society was divided into three classes i.e the Clergy also known as First Estate, The nobility also known as the Second Estate and the common man also known as the Fourth Estate. The First and the Second Estate comprised roughly 5% population of French society but controlled more than 95% of wealth and land of France. They didn't pay any tax to the king and oppressed the third estate in many ways. They employed the Third Estates in their fields and lived for themselves a luxurious life in palaces.

The Third Estate constitute more than 95% of french population but controlled less than 5% of wealth and land of France. They lived a miserable life and had to pay a number of taxes. They had to serve and work for the First and Second Estate. The third Estate also include doctors, lawyers, teachers, businessmen etc known as Bourgeois Class. Though they had great wealth and social status but they were ranked in the third Estate. It was this class which aroused the common man about their rights which lead to rebellion against the king and ultimately Revolution in France.
