People used to be separated and grouped into properly managed set of hierarchies in social categories.  

That system was widely spread in the world for centuries.

India was also immensely influenced by social class division system.  

Actual practice India once used to refer to as a class society country.  

Few peoples were considered superior while few inferior.  

Ancient India social hierarchy was widely divided in four major categories:

Brahmins

Kshatriyas

Vaisyas

Shudras
