Agriculture is the mainstay of indian economy because about 60% of indian population depends directly or indirectly on agriculture.It provides food to about 1027 million people..It contributes 29% to indian gross domestid product.
Agriculture provides raw material to industries.India earns foreign exchange by exporting its agricultural productions.
