Sodium is more metallic than Alluminium. Reasons are as follows.

  • Sodium is placed on group 1 of the third period of the Periodic table. This indicates that it is one of the most metallic elements. Aluminium, being in the 13th group is less metallic.
  • Group 1 elements have only one electron in their valence shell. This means that Sodium easily gives its electron to other elements to obtain an octet structure. This makes it more metallic than Alluminium which has to lose 3 electrons.
  • The ability to lose an electron makes sodium a better conductor of electricity and heat than Aluminium.
  • Sodium hence also forms stronger alkalies than Aluminium.
