Answer- The above question is from the chapter 'Metals and Non-metals'.

Given question: Are sodium, potassium and lithium metals or non-metals?

Answer: Sodium, potassium and lithium are metals.

Additional information:-

1. Sodium, potassium and lithium are lustrous i.e. they shine.

2. They are soft metals as they can be cut easily with a knife.

3. They react vigorously in air to form sodium oxide (Na₂O), potassium oxide (K₂O) and lithium oxide (Li₂O) which when dissolved in water form sodium hydroxide (NaOH), potassium hydroxide (KOH) and lithium hydroxide (LiOH) which are basic in nature.

4. They have one valence electron.

5. They are s-Block elements.

All these properties show that sodium, potassium and lithium are metals.
