Firstly CaO + H2O will react to form slaked lime Ca(OH)2 + heat. It is an exothermic reaction. Calcium hydroxide is an alkali.

Observations:

1. When water is added to quick lime, a suspension of slaked lime is formed.

2. On touching the beaker we feel it is hot.

3. A clear solution appears as the suspension of slaked lime settles down to the bottom of the beaker.

4. On blowing exhaled air that contains sufficient carbon dioxide, lime water turns milky.

We observe that:-

The reaction is highly vigorous as well as exothermic.

It accompained by hissing noise and bubbles. In fact, the solution initially starts boiling.

In this reaction , calcium hydroxide ( slaked lime ) is formed as a result of combination reaction between two compounds. CaO(s) + H2O(l) → Ca (OH)2 (s)
