Solid stem in wheat exhibits non-preference by the stem sawfly.

  • The morphological, biochemical, or physiological characteristics of host agricultural plants contribute to their insect resistance.
  • Along with ants, bees, and wasps, sawflies are members of the suborder Symphyta in the family Hymenoptera.
  • The stem of wheat has been strengthened by plant breeding so that sawflies produce little or no larvae.
  • Sawflies perish when there are no larvae. As a result, the plant with a sturdy stem is no longer preferred by the stem sawfly insect.
