The intermolecular spaces between the particles are too large. Therefore, the density of particles in a gas is much less whereas the volume is larger. Hence gases are generally light. Solids are generally heavy as compared to gases.

Answer:

The particles of solid are closely packed with each other while gas particles are loose. So strong interparticle force makes solid heavy and light particle attraction make it lighter
