solids generally have more density than liquids. Then why ice floats on water ?

kaushikravikant: water is denser in its liquid phase than its solid phase, hence ice floats on the surface of water
kaushikravikant: as density of water is maximum at 4degree Celsius,as it more freeze it become less denser

Solids generally have more density than liquids, but the ice has low density than the water.so the ice floats on water, which has high density.

ice floats because it is less dense than liquid water.
density of the subtance is the mass per volume. so volume of sub.
increase the density is decrease.
when the water frizz it is expand.
9% more space rquired than it did as a liquid. so it have more volume then water. and so ice have less density then water.
