Given :

  • bromide is 8 x 10^-5
  • salt is 80% dissociated is saturated solution

To find :

  • solubility of salt

Solution :

let s be the solubility of the salt

degree of dissociation of the salt 0.8

PbBr_2 ⇌ pb^2+ + 2br^-

0.8S 2 x 0.8S

K_sp = [pb^2+][br^-]²

= 0.8S x (1.6 S)²

= 2.048S³

Or

S³ = 8 x 10^-5/2.048 = 3.906 x 10^-5

= ³√3.906 x 10^-5

= 3.39 x 10^-2 mol L^-1

mol mass of pbBr_2 = 367

solubility of pbBr = 3.906 x 10^-5 x 367 = 12.44 g L^-1
