so breadth should be increased by 33.33%

L new = decrease of L by 33.33% => Lnew = L [1-(33.33/100) ]=.6667L

Area of rectangle = L*B

Area1 = L*B

Area2 = Lnew * Bnew

Area1 = Area2

L*B = Lnew*Bnew

L*B = 0.6667L * Bnew

Cancelling L on both sides

Bnew*0.6667 = B

Bnew = B/0.6667 = 1.4999B

In %, Bnew = (1.4999*100)B = 149.99B

So, Bnew = (100+49.99)B

i.e., 49.99% of breadth should be increased so that the area remains constant

which is almost 50%
