★ Here is your answer ★

(a)

Electron affinity of Chlorine is more than that of Fluorine because Fluorine has exceptionally small size and the electrons present in Fluorine are compactly packed and further addition of an electron to Fluorine leads to repulsion as a result of which E.A of Fluorine decreases than Chlorine .

(b) Ga is less than Al because outermost valence shell electronic configuration of both is ns2 np1 but in case of Al it is 3s23p1 and for Ga it is 4s24p1. Now as before Ga 10 electrons are filled in d-orbital which has poor shielding effect. So effective nuclear charge increases and valence shell faces more attraction and hence smaller in size than Al.

(c) →NH3 has higher dipole moment than NF3 .

» REASON:

● in case of NH3, nitrogen is more electronegative than hydrogen,so it tries to pull the electrons from hydrogen atoms.

● where as in case of NF3, fluorine being more electronegative than nitrogen tries to pull the electrons from nitrogen opposite from that of nitrogen.

hence due to this reason,

◎ NH3 HAS HIGHER DIPOLE MOMENT

(d) Borax bead test is used to determine the presence of metals, particularly in minerals. Different metals when exposed to flame produce different colors. In the test a small amount is taken on platinum loop and exposed to flame. When exposed to flame the borax forms a bead which is then coated with a film of the sample mineral and exposed to the flame again. The color of the flame is then used to the determine the metal present.

sunysalujw: The bead test is a traditional part of qualitative inorganic analysis to testfor the presence of certain metals. The oldest one is the borax bead test or blister test. It was introduced by Berzelius in 1812. Since then other salts were used as fluxing agents, such as sodium carbonate or sodium fluoride.
