Find the value of x

 \sf  |2x - 17|  = 3

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies }  (2x - 17)=  \pm \: 3

Taking + sign

 \displaystyle \sf{  }  (2x - 17)=  \: 3

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies }  2x=  20

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies }  x=  10

Taking - sign

 \displaystyle \sf{  }  (2x - 17)=  - 3

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies }  2x=  14

Thus we have x = 7 , 10
