multiply equation (1)by 2and equation (2)by 1

6x+4y=22...(4)

x-4y=13....(5)

add equation (4)and (5)

6x+4y=22

x-4y=13

7x=35

then x=5

substitute x=5 in equation (5)

x-4y=13

5-4y=13

-4y=8

y=-2
