Concept:

Mathematics has 4 basic operations namely edition subtraction multiplication and division. Simplifying and expression means solving the expression to reduce it into its lowest form. Expanding and expression means to apply all the operations of mathematics and make a simple expression.

Variables are those terms that can have different values and coefficients are those terms which are written with the variable.

Given:

We are given that:

4 y + y / 5 = 21

Find:

We need to find the value of y and check that if the value is correct.

Solution:

We have:

4 y + y / 5 = 21

Simplifying:

(20 y + y) / 5 = 21

21 y =  21 × 5

y = 5.

Check:

4 y + y / 5 = 21

Put y = 5:

4 (5) + 5 / 5 = 21

20 + 1 = 21

Therefore the value of y in 4 y + y / 5 = 21 is y = 5.
