Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

so the question is

5/x-1 + 1/y-2 = 2

and 6/x -1 + 3/y-2 = 1

these types of questions where a part of fraction is similar is done by substituting. For example.

let 1/x-1 = a

and 1/y-2 = b

now new equation is

5a + b = 2 ....... (I)

6a + 3b = 1........ (ii)

then we use elimination method.

6[5a + b] = 6[2]

5[6a + 3b] = 5[1]

30a + 6b = 12...... (iii)

30a + 15b = 5......(iv)

now here, subtract (iv) from (iii)

30a + 6b = 12

(-)30a + 15b = 5

= -9b = 7

b = -7/9

now substituting b in equation (I)

5a -7/9 = 2

45a - 7 = 18

45a = 25

a = 25/45

a = 5/9

now a = 1/x-1

5/9 = 1/x-1

5x - 5 = 9

x = 14/5

b = 1/y-2

-7/9 = 1/y-2

14 -7y = 9

-7y = -5

y = 5/7

Hope this helps ☺️
