Step-by-step explanation:

  1. convert tan a= sin a / cos a and cot a = cos a / sin a.
  2. do LCM that is : Sin a Cos a in the denominator.
  3. replace Cos^2 a by 1-Sin^2 a.
  4. cancel the numerator terms, which can be cancelled.
  5. at last you will get numerator as : Sin a + Cos a and denominator as: Sin a Cos a.
  6. split it and cancel same terms then you will get : 1/Cos a + 1/Sin a = Sec a+ Cosec a.
