let x be the greater no.
and y the smaller
x+y=20(given)
∴x=20-y.......................1
we are also given that
x-y=4
substitute 1
(20-y)- y=4
20-2y=4
2y=20-4
y=16/2
y=8
substitute y in 1
x=20-y
x=20-8
x=12
therefore x is the larger no. with value 12 and y is the smaller no. with value 8
and y the smaller
