4x + 8y = 20
4x - 2y = 30 ​

Solution :

Given that :

4x + 8y = 20 ... (1)

4x - 2y = 30 ... (2)

On subtracting equation (2) from (1) :

4x + 8y = 20

4x - 2y = 30

(-) (+) (-)

____________________

8y + 2y = 20 - 30

=> 10y = -10

=> y = -1

On putting the value of 'y' in equation (1) :

4x + 8(-1) = 20

=> 4x = 20 + 8

=> 4x = 28

=> x = 7

Required values : x = 7 and y = -1
