Answer:

x = 8.75

 y =  -2.17

Step-by-step explanation:

2x + 3y =11

2x - 3y = 24     [ELIMINATION METHOD] first, choose the variable you want  to

                                                                    eliminate.(either X or Y, I  chose "Y")

                                                                   secondly, make sure that the co-efficient of variable chosen are equal.

Lastly, before elimination, one must be negative and one must be positive.These are the rules guiding elimination method in simultaneous equation.

Solution:         2x + 3y =11

                       2x - 3y = 24             (applying rule 3)

                        4x = 35 ( because +3-3= 0)

               Divide both sides by 4

     = 4x/4 = 35/4

∴x = 8.75

To find "Y"

= substitute to any of the equation, I chose equation 1

2x + 3y =11

2[8.75] + 3y = 11

17.5+ 3y = 11  (collect like terms)

3y = 11 - 17.5

3y = -6.5

Divide both sides by 3

Y = -2.17

∴x = 8.75

 y =  -2.17
