hi....
 \frac{3y - (8 - 5y)}{7y - (3 + 2y)}  = 2

 \frac{3y - 8 + 5y}{7y - 3 - 2y} = 2

 \frac{8y - 8}{5y - 3}  = 2

8y - 8 = 2(5y - 3)

8y - 8 = 10y - 6

8y - 10y =  - 6 + 8

 - 2y = 2

y =  \frac{2}{ - 2}

y =  - 1
