Answer:

x = -1

Note:

• A linear equation in one variable represents a point on the real number line (1-dimension) .

• A linear equation in two variable represents a straight line on Cartesian plane (2-dimension) .

• A linear equation in three variable represents a plane in space (3-dimension) .

Solution:

We have ;

=> 5x + 1 = x - 3

=> 5x - x = -3 - 1

=> 4x = -4

=> x = -4/4

=> x = -1

Hence,

The required value of x is –1 .
