Step-by-step explanation:

x + 3y = 14---------1

3x – y = 2.----------2

2 is multiplied by 3

9x - 3y = 6. ------3

x + 3y = 14

----------------

10 x = 20

x = 2

put x =2 in 1

2+ 3y = 14

3y =14-2

3y = 12

y =4

x + 3y = 14 (1)

3x – y = 2. (2) multiply by 3

x + 3y = 14

9x – 3y = 6

on adding both

+3y and-3y get cancelled

10x = 20

x= 20/10

x= 2
