I think x=5 and y=4
.
so that xy=20
=5×4=20

and

x-y=1
=4-4=1@ñ$

rajnisingh1201: plz mark

Everythingpurple: Dont need it by estimation, but by proper substitution.

Answer:

I think 2 answers are possible :

• x = -4 and y = -5

• x = 5 and y = 4.

Step-by-step explanation:

x-y=1.

So,

x = 1+y

Substituting this in 'xy=20',

(1+y)y = 20

y+ y² = 20

y² + y - 20 = 0

y² + 5y - 4y - 20 = 0

y(y+5) -4(y+5) = 0

(y+5)(y-4) = 0

(y+5) = 0 (OR) (y-4) = 0

y = -5 (OR) y = 4.

• When y = -5,

x = 20/y = 20/-5 = -4.

• When y = 4,

x = 20/y = 20/4 = 5.

Hope this helps!!!! Thanks for answering my questions !!! Great answers !! I'm impressed !! (◠‿◕)
