x2 – 4x + 4 = 8 + 4

x2 – 4x + 4 = 12

(x – 2)^2 = 12

 \sqrt{(x - 2) {}^{2} }  =  \sqrt{12 } \\ x - 2 =  +  -  \sqrt{4 \times 3}   \\ x - 2  =  +  - 2 \sqrt{3 }  \\ x = 2 +  - 2 \sqrt{3}
