(3 + 1)(3 - \sqrt{3}) \\ = \sqrt{3} (3 - \sqrt{3} ) + 1(3 - \sqrt{3} ) \\ = 3 \sqrt{3} - ( \sqrt{3} \times \sqrt{3} ) + 3 - \sqrt{3} \\ = 3 \sqrt{3} - 3 + 3 - \sqrt{3} \\ = 3 \sqrt{3} - \sqrt{3} = <strong><em>2 \sqrt{3}</em></strong>
