Given 0.4x + 0.3y = 1.7   -------- (1)

Given 0.7x - 0.2y = 0.8   -------- (2)

On solving (1) * 0.7 & (2) * 0.4, we get

0.28x + 0.21y = 1.19

0.28x - 0.08y = 0.32

---------------------

          0.29y = 0.87

             y = 0.87/0.29

           y = 3.

Substitute y = 3 in (1), we get

0.4x + 0.3y = 1.7

0.4x + 0.3(3) = 1.7

0.4x + 0.9 = 1.7

0.4x = 1.7 - 0.9

0.4x = 0.8

x = 0.8/0.4

x = 2.

Therefore the value of x = 2 and y = 3.

Hope this helps!
