putting the value of x which is -1/2
=> 8 (-1/2)^3 - a(-1/2)^2 -(-1/2) + 2 = 0
=> -8/8 - a/4 + 1/2 + 2 = 0
=> -1 - a/4 + 1/2 + 2 = 0
=> -a/4 = 1 - 1/2 - 2
=> a/4 = 1 + 1/2
=> a/4 = 3/2
=> a = 6
