x-y=3
=>x=3+y............ 1

x+2y=-1............. 2

substitute 1 in 2
3+y+2y=-1
3+3y=-1
3y=(-1-3)
3y=-4
y=(-4/3)

x-y=3
x-(-4/3)=3
x+4/3=3
x=3-4/3
x=9/3-4/3
x=5/3

proof:
x+2y=-1
5/3+2(-4/3)=-1
5/3-8/3=-1
-3/3=-1
-1=-1

x-y=3
5/3-(-4/3)=3
5/3+4/3=3
9/3=3
3=3

hence proved
