x² + 9 y² = 9

⇒ x² + ( 3 y )² = 9 .......( 1 )

xy = 1

⇒ 6 xy = 6 ..............( 2 )

Adding ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) :

⇒ x² + ( 3 y )² + 6 xy = 6 + 9

⇒ ( x + 3 y )² = 15

Multiply both sides by 4 :

⇒ 4 ( x + 3 y )² = 60

⇒ ( 2 ( x + 3 y ) )² = 60

⇒ ( 2 x + 6 y )² = 60

Hence the answer is 60 .

Question 12

64 x² + y² = 72

⇒ 16 x² + y²/4 = 18

xy = 2

⇒ 4 xy = 8

Adding both :

16 x² + y²/4 + 4 xy = 18 + 8

⇒ ( 4 x + y/2 )² = 26

Hence the answer is 26 .
