If p, q are zeroes of polynomial f(x) = 2x^2-7x + 3 find the value of p^2+q^2

{\underline{\huge{\mathbf{\color{pink}{solution}}}}}

  • mid term split

 2x^2 - 7x + 3

 2x^2 - 6x - x + 3

 2x(x-3) -1 (x-3)

 (2x-1)(x-3)

 2x - 1 = 0  x - 3 = 0

 2x  = 1  x = 3

 x = \dfrac{1}{2}  x = 3

  • compare

zeros of polynomial f(x) =  \dfrac{1}{2} , 3

p , q =  \dfrac{1}{2} , 3

  • finding value

 p^2 + q^2 = \dfrac {1^2}{2^2} + 3^2

 p^2 + q^2 = \dfrac {1}{4} + 9

 p^2 + q^2 = \dfrac {1+36}{4}

 p^2 + q^2 = \dfrac {37}{4}

 p^2 + q^2 = 9.25
